Book Buying Ban

Yes, I hate to say it, but I have had to put myself on a book buying ban.

I have spent just over £120 on books this term alone, which is a way over the budget I had initially set for book reading. As a result, my room is filled with piles of books, just waiting to be read. Buying any more books would only add to the piles, and make reading through them even more of a challenge.

A book buying ban was necessary – both for my purse and for my sanity. There is less pressure to read, so I can enjoy books more, and I have more money for food and other necessities. I won’t be going through the ban alone, however, as my boyfriend is also on a ban (although, he has already caved and bought another book already).

I love buying books, especially since there are so many books out there that I would love to read. But the addiction is a problem and one that needs to be overcome. So, I am now forbidden from buying books until my TBR pile has been read. There are a couple of exceptions, however. As I have started a book club with a few friends, I am allowed to buy the books for that, otherwise I would not be able to read them and join in the discussion. I am also allowed to buy books for other people and receive books as gifts.

It will be a challenge, but it will be a worthy one. Here’s hoping I will succeed!
